Our hypothesis was indeed not whether or not Scrum is more effective - which is honestly not a very interesting question to me as there is too much variation between teams and orgs in how it is practiced.
We did develop a process-based model for teams that explains why some are more effective than others. We used data from (mostly) Scrum teams for that. But the model contains no factors unique to Scrum.
In this post, I used that data to see if there were any differences between teams on those processes.
